Overview

Students will explore natural dyeing by extracting pigments from plants and food-based materials and applying them through dyeing fabric, creating paints, or keeping them to color bioplastics made in the next workshop. Through hands-on experimentation, they will explore how pH (acids and bases) can change pigment color by modifying dyes with common substances such as washing soda, alum, and vinegar. Students will test, observe, and document color changes, connecting chemical reactions to visual changes. This approach will teach basic chemistry concepts while encouraging creative exploration, sustainability, and reuse across workshops.
