Dr. Kachmar teaches foundational nursing courses with a unique focus on health humanities and narrative medicine. Through her elective course, Narrative Matters in Health & Illness Experiences, she empowers students to use patient-authored narratives to explore the real-world impact of health and illness. By integrating memoirs and storytelling, Dr. Kachmar fosters empathy, helping future nurses and practitioners connect with patients on a deeper level. She designs interactive lessons, small group discussions, and writing exercises that engage diverse learning styles and reflect the teamwork essential to nursing practice. This approach not only enhances nursing care but also strengthens the professional identity of students.
