Humanities in Medical Education
Medical Humanities Council at Penn School of Medicine
The Penn Medical Humanities Council (MHC) oversees arts and humanities programming and development within Penn School of Medicine (PSOM). They hold community discussions, host speakers, and showcase student & faculty work throughout the year. They also partner with organizations both within and outside of PSOM to promote the humanities in medicine.
Currently, as an attending physician, Dr. Deosthali unites her interests in Medical Education and the Medical Humanities by serving as a mentor for the MHC, with the hope to have the humanities incorporated as an important early building block in students' medical training.
Biography
Ankita Deosthali, MD, FAAP is a primary care physician in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Care Network, and the Medical Director of the Flourtown office. Originally from the suburbs of New York City, Ankita first developed a love for the humanities in high school, and was an active member of her high school newspaper and Drama company. After high school, Ankita received a degree in Cognitive Science with Honors from Rice University, and chose this major because of the multidisciplinary approach to the study of the mind. As her education and training grew more specialized in medicine at Temple University, and then pediatrics at Tufts Medical Center, Ankita has sought various ways to keep art and science interlinked.
